Made up of identical pine planks, KAPLA wooden blocks are designed for builders from 3 years to 103 . An open-ended construction game to ignite creativity and a passion for engineering and logical thinking. Developed by Dutchman Tom van der Bruggen in 1987, drawing inspiration from his studies in History of Art and love of architectural design, KAPLA planks bring together both art and STEM subjects. The name comes from the Dutch word ‘Kabouter Plankjes’, meaning ‘Gnome Planks’ and abbreviated to KAPLA.
These innovative building planks are unique in size, in the ratio of 1:3:5. This makes them ideal for creating increasingly complex structures, due to their stability, held together by gravity alone. This ratio is used when designing building features including lintels, roofs and floors, making KAPLA creations surprisingly difficult to knock down! Made from smooth, 100% untreated pine wood from natural pine forests in Les Landes in the South-West of France, a renewable and sustainable material.
